From Huffington Post: Altar Server Scandal Is Reminder Of How Far The Catholic Church Has To Go With Women by Lydia O’Connor
While Pope Francis has been widely hailed as a champion of social progress, when it comes to elevating women’s roles, critics say the Catholic Church still has a long way to go. continue
EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy is in Europe for five days to promote the administration's Climate Action Plan.
The Pope is expected to release a major Encyclical on the Environment and Global Warming later this year. We find it hopeful that the Vatican, and Pope Francis in particular, plan to use their considerable influence to bring awareness to the dangerous effects of Human Caused Global Warming.
We believe this is the single most critical issue facing humanity. We absolutely must come to terms with the fact that we are degrading this planet's ability to support human population. If we don't change course very soon our children and grandchildren will pay a heavy price for our refusal to act. Global Warming is real, it is human caused, it's happening now and it's deadly. Not only that, the global poor are, as usual, the most vulnerable.

Public Radio’s Here and Now talks with Sr. Joan Chittister. This segment is nine minutes long. We're not going to print quotes here because it's much better to LISTEN to the interview. Every word out of Joan's mouth is insightful, interesting and forceful. Listen to the recording. She truly is a leader in the Catholic Church today.
Women's Ordination Conference (WOC) responds to Misogynist Ban on Altar Girls in San Francisco Archdiocese with an action alert calling on its members to voice their concerns by calling the San Francisco archdiocese at 415-614-5500.
The damaging message that girls do not have a place on the altar has lasting repercussions on the minds and faith all children, and for the many families trying to keep the Church relevant in their lives. ~ WOC representative Kate McElwee.

OH MY GOD — you’ve just got to read this: San Francisco priest bars altar girls, sparks another controversy by David Gibson. This article is full of one ignorant, tone-deaf comment after another - both from Fr. Joseph Illo and from Cardinal Burke.
Illo’s reasoning for the no girls need apply policy…
The first, he said, is that "boys usually end up losing interest [in altar service] because girls generally do a better job."
His solution? Get rid of the girls - even though they are doing a better job than the boys.
From Cardinal Burke…
"It requires a certain manly discipline to serve as an altar boy in service at the side of [a] priest, and most priests have their first deep experiences of the liturgy as altar boys," said the former archbishop of St. Louis. He added that "the sanctuary has become full of women" and that has discouraged men from taking part in church life.
One hardly knows what to say about that! Except that many parents are understandably hesitant for their children to have “deep experiences” anywhere near Rome’s male-only clergy. How can Burke not understand that a major factor in the steady decline in the Roman Church is their old boys club management team and the anti-woman attitudes they cling to?
Take your tums and then read this article. It’s revealing.
Are you a Roman Catholic Woman Priest? We would like to open up our web-page to writings of Women Priests nationally. We think of this offer as giving Women Priests an additional microphone so that you can expand the reach of your voice to new listeners. The Community of St. Bridget web-page is read monthly by readers in 35 to 40 US States and approximately 20 countries internationally.
You can contribute a Homily that you find particularly meaningful. Alternately, you could contribute any original writing with a spiritual insight or personal story. If you lead a community, we would love to hear about that.
We don’t want to exclude anybody based solely on gender. So, if you are a male reader who supports the Ordination of Women, you are also invited to contribute your thoughts.
We want to open up for our readers a broader cross-section of the women-priests movement - and would love to have more women (and men) contribute their voices.

We're still waiting for justice within the Roman led Catholic Church. Rome, how long will you persist in your views that women are second-class christians? How long will it be before we read this headline - "Male domination in the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church ended Monday"? Listen up Vatican. Justice Delayed is Justice Denied. ORDAIN WOMEN.
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A Bay Area church is now under fire over a controversial new policy saying only boys can be altar servers.
The retrograde Archbishop of San Francisco supports this discriminatory policy. A seventh grader at the parish school has better pastoral instincts than either Fr. Illo or the Archbishop. One day SHE will make and excellent Catholic Priest.
“It just kind of makes me feel that I’m not good enough because I’m a girl,” said a 7th grader at the school who wishes to stay anonymous.
We need every corporation in the world to make Human Caused Climate Change a number one priority. Ben & Jerry’s are making a good start. Here’s their statement on the issue…
If it’s melted, it’s ruined. We’re not scientists, but we figure that ice caps, like ice cream, are best kept frozen.
In Two "rebels" ordained - Iglesia Descalza covers the recent ordinations of Georgia Walker and Rita Lucey.
Rev. Lucey told the Orlando Sentinel that she doesn't accept the institutional Church's arguments against women's ordination. "I see that as a man-made thing rather than a revealed truth. It's a patriarchal interpretation of the Scriptures that definitely has sexual bias."
Faith Doesn’t Need Walls: A Conversation with Kate Kelly by Kate Stoltzfus
"One thing I’ve learned through this journey is that men do not control my happiness or my connection to God,” Kelly said. “When men tried to tell me that I don’t get to go to heaven because they disagree with something I said, I think that was revolutionary for me to say, ‘Nope! That’s not true. You don’t get to decide that." full story

Did Pope Francis Just Break New Ground On Birth Control?
The quick answer is NO. In fact, the pope has re-affirmed the odd church teaching which bans the use of contraceptives. Really! The All male run Roman Church has lost a tremendous amount of moral capital because of it perverse teaching against birth control. It’s time to change this. Catholic People everywhere have already soundly rejected this teaching. It’s time for the men in the Vatican to catch up - and admit that they made a mistake on this issue.
Francis will soon release a major Encyclical on the subject of Human Caused Global Warming. We are in the process of destroying the Earth’s capacity to sustain human life. If we don’t change course very soon human populations on this planet will shrink violently and disruptively due to rising sea levels, disruptive loss of food production capacity, heat waves and violent catastrophic weather events. If we are to maintain a livable and sustainable planet Earth, one of the things we MUST be able to do is control the size of our families and therefor the use or our limited resources. Please Church. Please Francis. You see what’s going on. It’s time to be part of the solution. article
