Our Community Priest Ann Klonowski has shared some photos of the Wisteria which she and Al are growing in their back yard. The pictures are so gorgeous we couldn't resist publishing them as a slide shoe here. Enjoy...
I know I am touching the living body of Christ
in the broken bodies of the hungry and the suffering.
From NCR - It's time to be honest about Pope Francis and women by Jamie Manson
Several years ago, I asked in this column, "When does our hope for Pope Francis become denial?"
We agree with the conclusions that Jamie comes to in her essay. It is now abundantly clear that Francis does not understand what justice, dignity and full equality mean with respect to the function of Catholic Women within the Roman Catholic Church. Francis is not constrained by Roman bureaucracy. He is constrained by his own lack of understanding and vision.
Pope Francis believes that women cannot assume these leadership roles in the church because of our bodies. He believes the God simply cannot work through the female body in the way in which God works through the male body. He believes that, when it comes to consecrating the Eucharist, the female anatomy somehow renders God powerless.
It is increasingly clear that we will not see justice for women in the Catholic Church under this pope.
Jesus did not spend a great deal of time discoursing about the Trinity or original sin or the Incarnation, which have preoccupied later Christians. He went around doing good and being compassionate. ~Karen Armstrong
If you accept the belief that baptism incorporates us in the mystical body of Christ, into the divine DNA, then you might say that the Holy Spirit is present in each of us, and thus we have the capacity for the fullness of redemption, of transformation.
From MS Magazine - Flying in the Face of Catholic Law, These Women Are Claiming the Priesthood ~by Allison Shapiro
In the rest of the city, people are trudging through the rain and struggling to keep their umbrellas from flipping inside out. But inside Chicago’s Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, it’s warm and bright. A small choir and a guitarist are warming up, the sound of their hymn barely filling the open space of the nave. Soon they’ll have the voices of the congregation to bolster them.
All you have to do is to make your story fit into the story of Jesus.
~Daniel Berrigan, SJ (1921-2016)
Iglesia Descalza has published an update on the Women's Ordinations celebrated during March and April. They provide brief bios of the Women Priests and Deacons along with some Ordination pictures. We extend our congratulations to these women and pray that their ministries will bring compassion, love and healing into a broken world.
