From National Catholic Reporter - Francis: Christians must apologize to gay people for marginalizing them by Joshua J. McElwee ABOARD THE PAPAL FLIGHT TO ROME The Catholic church and other Christian communities must apologize to gay people and to many groups they have let down or offended throughout history, Pope Francis has said. Really Francis? The Church should ask forgiveness from gay people and women? NO. We do not forgive the church - we can not and will not - until you put an end to the ongoing abuse and injustice which the Roman Catholic Church continues to pile on women and gay people. You think that we should “forgive the church" when it has done nothing to stop the very practices which you now ask to be forgiven for? NO NO NO. These odd comments from the Pope are NOT progress. Francis - you seem inclined towards wisdom. Examine your heart and do the right thing. ORDAIN WOMEN, MARRY GAY COUPLES. Then maybe you can come to us and ask for forgiveness. Also, Francis you should know that when the RCC clings to ancient bigotries against Women and LGBT people, you are also offending many many straight heterosexual men who - surprise - support the women and LGBT people in their lives. You need to seek forgiveness from EVERYBODY, not just women and gay people. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
